Miss Indiana Katie Stam Named Miss America 2009

Making her home state proud, Miss Indiana Katie Stam was named as Miss America 2009 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday night (January 24).

With Mario Lopez acting as host, Miss Stam, a 22-year-old communications major from the University of Indianapolis, beat out her 51 fellow competitors to capture this year's crown.

After the announcement was made, the reigning Miss America, Michigan's Kirsten Haglund, graciously crowned her overjoyed successor.

For winning the competition, which aired on TLC, Stam earned herself a $50,000 scholarship and numerous opportunities which will surely arise from being named Miss America.

The latest bit of cannon fodder in the ongoing fight between pregnant Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford and her estranged husband, Daniel Giersch, came last night when a rep for the actress released a statement to OK! defending her against recent accusations.

"Right now, Kelly is focusing on what is in the best interest of her family and trying to bring as much normalcy to their lives as possible during this difficult time. The statements being made by her husband Daniel Giersch are completely fabricated and Kelly is a loving and caring individual and a wonderful mother."

The couple, who are expecting their second child together later this year, are supposed to be in court today to argue their respective sides in a custody hearing regarding their 2-year-old son, Hermes.

When Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon surprised the world last April with their quickie romance and wedding, many speculated on just why the couple rushed to the altar. But judging by the pair's behavior at the Sundance Film Festival and yesterday's inauguration festivities, it might just be that the superstar liked the idea of having a helping hand by her side at all times.

At Tuesday morning's swearing-in ceremony for new president Barack Obama, onlookers tell OK! that it was hard to tell Mimi's hubby from her security detail as they made their way through the crowd.

"Nick looked more like an assistant than her husband," says an onlooker. "He walked next to her, making sure that she was okay. He wouldn't leave her side."

This comes after several days for the couple at the snowy Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, where they were similarly inseparable.

"Everywhere Mariah went, there was Nick," one Sundance source tells OK!. "He was opening doors for her, carrying things for her."

Of course, none of this is to imply there's any marital discord between the pair. "They looked great together and very happy to be at the inauguration," the D.C. witness tells OK!.

Richard Madeley falls victim to helium gag

Television presenter Richard Madeley has become victim to an internet prankster, after believing he was inhaling helium from a balloon.

Internet comedian Edward Harris convinced Madeley , 52, he had sucked from a helium-filled balloon, which really only contained oxygen.

The footage, shot during a recent book signing, is now on YouTube, and shows Madeley wishing Harris happy birthday in a high-pitched voice.

Introducing the clip, Harris says: "Everyone knows when you inhale helium from a balloon you speak in a high pitched voice.

"But what if you lead someone to believe there was helium in that balloon when there really wasn’t.

"Would they still speak in a high pitched voice because of human psychology?"

The unknown comedian then approaches the TV presenter at a WHSmith store where he was signing copies of his book Fathers and Sons, and invites him to wish him a happy birthday.

After taking a small breath, Richard squealed: "So a very happy birthday Edward."

He then hands Harris a signed book before chuckling: "There you go mate. Well listen, happy birthday, have a great day, thanks for coming down."

The clip was posted on video sharing website YouTube on Monday for Harris’ mini series Laugh or Cry TV.

Harris continued: "I actually really liked meeting Richard Madeley he’s one of my favourite TV personalities.

"He was really professional, really polite, really nice and I bought his book but I couldn’t resist because I had some balloons on me."

David and Victoria Beckham have both been pictured in their underwear for Armani seperately, but have now posed together for the designer.

In a black-and-white picture put on a huge billboard in Milan in time for the men’s fashion show this week, the couple model Emporio Armani’s latest underwear collection.

David, who has recently signed on loan for AC Milan, poses on white briefs while lying on his stomach on a bed.

His wife meanwhile is wearing a bra with white polka dots as she lies on the edge of the bed.

The picture is similar to a photo of the former Posh Spice in her underwear that was unveiled last week.

She posed for the sultry black and white shots as she is the new face of Emporio Armani Women’s Underwear range.

It is thought the latest smouldering image is part of a lucrative deal worth an estimated £32 million in total.

The couple are promoting underwear from the spring/summer collection.

David, 33, first signed a £20 million deal to become the global ambassador for the fashion house in 2007, and his wife, 34, followed with her own £12 million deal late last year.

Explaining his reasons for signing the former Spice Girl last week, Italian designer Giorgio Armani said: “I chose Victoria Beckham to launch our new global Emporio Armani Women’s Underwear campaign because she is a stylish and intriguing woman. Great underwear is alluring and provocative, and so I wanted to work with someone who would make a real impression. I’m sure Victoria’s presence will generate great excitement.”

Kelly Brook 'to be paid £33,000' for six Britain's Got Talent shows

Kelly Brook will reportedly be paid £33,000 for each of the six Britain's Got Talent shows she did, despite being dropped as a judge by its creator Simon Cowell.

The model and presenter, 29, was promised as much as £200,000 for sitting on the panel alongside Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

Cowell, the show's creator, had reportedly offered Brook the lucrative contract in the hope of kindling a rivalry with 37-year-old Holden, following the headlines created by the competition between judges Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue on his other reality television hit X Factor.

But after just a week on the show, she was relieved of her duties.

Cowell said in a statement: "I have genuinely enjoyed working with Kelly, she is absolutely lovely and a complete professional.

"But it's become clear the format doesn't support another judge and we will never add a fourth judge to the panel."

A spokesman for production company Talkbackthames added: "Producers reviewed the tapes over the weekend and although Kelly brings a huge amount of warmth to the show and we've loved having her on board, the complications it adds to the filming process and format of the show means that unfortunately, and with huge regret, we have agreed with ITV not to proceed with a fourth judge."

Earlier in the day, Becks took advantage of his A-list status by enjoying a VIP shopping spree at the flagship store alongside Roberta Armani. The store was reportedly closed to the public during David’s visit, while he was personally escorted by Armani’s niece.

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman threw their son Max a no-expenses-spared bash in honour of his first birthday at their Beverly Hills estate on Saturday.

Throughout the morning, balloons and equipment were delivered at the family home in prepartion of the day-long festivities. The theme of the party was “Where the Wild Things Are.”

The Aguilera-Bratman backyard was outfitted with small safari animals and multicolored balloons for the 40 or so invitees to enjoy.

In a recent interview with US Weekly, Xtina said of her son: “He is a mover and shaker. He is constantly moving, constantly banging on things. I don’t know what that means; maybe he is a drummer in the making, I don’t know. He is just so much fun and I have the best time with him. Every single day is a way for me to see life through brand new eyes. It really is an incredible thing for me every day.”

Max’s 1st birthday follows the heels of another celebrity tot who turned one yesterday — Harlow Madden, daughter of Nicole Richie and Joe Madden.
