Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron Courted for 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

Johnny Depp is close to enter a mythical world once again. The "Alice in Wonderland" actor is being offered a lead role in "Snow White and the Huntsman", which may reunite him with "Alice" producer Joe Roth, an individual familiar with the project has told The Wrap. Neither Depp's representation at UTA nor Universal Pictures, for which the film is being developed, releases a comment on the report.

Just days earlier, was rumored to land a role in the same movie. The Oscar-winning actress was said to play the evil queen, Ravenna. During that time, "Inception" star Tom Hardy was said close to sign a deal to portray Eric the Huntsman, which is now offered to Depp. Hardy, however, opts to focus on preparing for an unknown role in "The Dark Knight Rises", The Wrap says.

Depp is waiting for the release of "The Tourist", "Rango" as well as "The Rum Diary". He is currently in filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". The 47-year-old actor has been linked to several projects lately, including Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows", Gore Verbinski's "The Lone Ranger", Kathryn Bigelow's "Triple Frontier" and several others.

A movie adaptation of the classic tale, "Snow White and the Huntsman" will have more back story to Eric, the bounty hunter/hunstman who Ravenna hires to find and kill Snow White. He eventually refuses to kill the girl, instead tagging along with her as mentor.

Evan Daugherty writes the script and Rupert Sanders is attached to direct. Universal has just announced that they set the family fantasy movie for December 21, 2012 U.S. release and plans to start shooting in January 2011.
